Welcome to Sam's art corner!

This is the home of all my fun projects from my days at Liberty as well as some of my favorite client projects throughout the years. If you are looking for a specific project that you don't see here, just ask! I have done a variety of things that aren't always featured on my site to save space for my best work.

MFA THESIS - LITTLE DISCIPLES LEARNING

Little Disciples was created as a solution as part of my Masters thesis. The presented problem: Christian parents too often rely on the Church to educate their children on biblical topics rather than taking the parental responsibility to instruct them at home; resulting in decreased understanding and adherence to the Scriptures as children and as adults later in life. Research suggested that there are not enough materials readily available to parents to help foster a culture of discipleship within the home. By creating the book Little Disciples, I have provided a set of activities and Bible lessons geared towards toddlers that can be facilitated by parents in their own home.

WEB DESIGN

Web design is one of the components of Graphic Design that can be overlooked by clients once they have a branding package to play with. As a graphic designer with a web design skillset, I am proud to showcase a few clients I have worked with on their websites as well as my personal web projects. These websites have been created using Squarespace or Wordpress, and custom coding.

All client websites were initially set up by Sammie, but management of the sites has been turned over to the client.

Hatfield Hosting

Hatfield Hosting is a small business run by myself and my husband. Together, we offer hosting solutions for creatives and other small businesses, with the option to add on my web design services. The website design needed to offer information about the services we provide as well as a little bit about ourselves to make potential clients feel at home. Not only was this a fun passion project to work on, but it was also another chance to be creative with no boundaries!

SPARK LANDING PAGE

Spark Conference was a fictitious online event hosted for designers to spark creativity at home. The overall design goal was to promote sales and target the set demographic audience for the conference. Ultimately, the site would also be set up for Ecommerce to handle registration sales and the virtual presentation of sessions.

SPARK CONFERENCE

Spark is a fictitious virtual conference that I created for Typography class during grad school. The concept was a conference that you could watch from home with the intention of sparking creativity during the COVID slump many artists faced. Included in the registration fee was a "Graphic Designer Survival Kit" shipped to each attendee with "thinking socks", a journal to decorate and keep notes throughout the event, a brochure with session information, pencils, and a flash drive with additional digital content. The logo font was handcrafted using many sketches and Adobe Illustrator. In addition, Photoshop, Procreate and Wordpress were also used to complete the final deliverables.

PRINTMAKING

Printmaking is an artistic process based on the principle of transferring images from a matrix onto another surface, most often paper or fabric. Traditional printmaking techniques include woodcut, etching, engraving, and lithography, while modern artists have expanded available techniques to include screenprinting (What is printmaking?)

Below are examples of relief printing done during my graduate schooling. The wedding invitations were created using a Glowforge to get precise cuts for the text, while the other examples were hand carved on linoleum blocks. Each color was also hand mixed to ensure the accuracy of matching my color palette.
